Prayer Requests and Praises
·
Praise: Dalton Cramer, a four year old with three types of cancer and was
not expected to live, is now totally cancer-free. The doctors will be doing a stem cell implant.
·
Praise: Ashley Walton, who was in a severe car accident and suffered head
injuries, is slowly but surely regaining consciousness.
·
Gayla Reeves reported that she has
found a doctor in New York that may be able to help her daughter and the
prevent the spread of pancreatic tumors.
Continuing Prayer Requests
·
Carol Smoot asked us to prayer
for her mother who has been having TIAs (small strokes) recently. She also
reported that Dottie Schaffer is back in the hospital and needs our prayers.
·
A general call for prayers for all
those who are unemployed or who are facing layoffs.
·
Sharon
Darby’s mother had a bad day last Saturday and was “just out of it”. Sunday
morning she was doing a lot better, but the reason for her “spell” is unknown.
·
Jackie
Thornberry has a skin cancer that needs to be removed. (Surgery is scheduled
for December 8.)
·
Carol Smoot requested prayer for
several people: Dot and Joe Shaffer and Lisa Dempsey. Dot is at Emory Hospital
and has been diagnosed with two leaky heart valves. An operation is not
possible because of excessive bleeding. She is likely to be going on hospice
care soon. Joe is her husband and is quite distraught.

Greg Johnson asked for continued
prayer for Janet (see below) and for his nephew who is moving and trying to
sell his house.
·
Gayla Reeves (a first-time visitor
to our class) asked for prayer for her grandson, Steven. Steven is 5 and is
blind in one eye. It may be a muscular issue, but they don’t know yet.
·
Sharon Darby asked for prayer for
her daughter. Her blood pressure is lower now, but Shannon’s job with the
mortgage industry is 100% commission.
·
Buddy Reed, Anita Lublink’s cousin,
has stage 4 cancer.
·
Please continue your prayers for
Linda Daniels and her parents. Linda’s parents are suffering from dementia.
·
Becky Suggs’ neighbor, Maureen
Smith, has stage 2 breast cancer.
·
Ron Lublink’s brother, Willie and
Willie’s children are in conflict over care of his wife.
·
Ev and Terry Buhite’s son’s house
was robbed and things are not going
well for him at work.
·
Renie Johnson’s sister, Janet, has
been asked for a divorce. Janet has been ill for some time and needs a place to
live.
·
Gayla Huff asked for prayer for Mike
Boyd. Mike was in a motorcycle accident and is not in good shape.
·
Ev and Terry Buhite’s future daughter-in-law
is doing well after her cancer treatments, but she has sores in her mouth from
the chemo.
·
Charmane, a foster daughter of Ev
and Terry Buhite, has come back home.
·
Sharon Darby’s cousin, Elena, was
able to get the cancer medicine she needed through her doctor in Athens, thus
eliminating the necessity of traveling to Houston every 3 weeks to get
treatment.
·
Carolyn and Jay Sword asks that
God’s grace will be sufficient in dealing with the sale of their business.
·
Gayla Reeves’ daughter went to San Salvador
to have a stomach bypass and complications have affected the pancreas. Pray for
a miracle since doctors say that nothing can be done to reverse the effects of
the surgery.
·
Sean Stinnett fell down stairs and
broke several ribs.
Class News
·
This is the time of year that
decisions are being made regarding the
leadership of our church. Regardless of whether you like or do not like
the way the church is operating, please let a member of the Staff-Parish
Relations committee have your input. Gayla Huff and Jim Davis are
members of the committee.
·
The class voted to buy a
commemorative brick for the labyrinth.
·
Class Social: December 13 at 7pm at
Terry and Ev Buhite's; bring one heavy hors d’oeuvre and each person
should bring a gift ($10-$15) to exchange.
·
The class decided to support the
family of a HGUMC Preschool teacher
whose husband lost his job. Contributions for Thanksgiving and Christmas
will be received each Sunday.
·
We need officers for 2009. Please
call Charlie Jackson or Jackie Thornberry to volunteer to serve as an officer
or to nominate someone you think would be good. We need a president (or
co-president), secretary/treasurer, and a social chairman. Please consider
volunteering your services for the next year.
Announcements
·
The United Methodist Men are selling
pecans this year for $8 a bag. They are offering cinnamon, chocolate and
regular pecans.
·
On Saturday, December 6, from 5:00
to 8:00, there will be a Christmas Tour of Historic Lilburn Homes sponsored by
the Lilburn Woman’s Club. Tickets are available from Jackie for $10.
·
The Lilburn Co-op has Christmas
cards for a donation of $5 or more. These make great gifts for neighbors and
friends who do not need more “stuff.”
·
The Pre-School has Brewster’s coupon
books ($10) and Chick Fil A Calendars ($6) for sale as fundraisers. See Renie
Johnson or Kathy Benson to purchase these.
